Cold water at 8 to 15°C makes the blood vessels in skin and muscle narrow. Less fluid leaks into the tissue, so swelling and inflammation after hard training ease.
When you step out, the vessels open again and fresh, oxygen-rich blood flows back into the muscle. This pumping effect also helps lymph carry metabolic byproducts away.
The first seconds in cold water trigger an alert response: breathing speeds up and the heart rate rises. Slow, steady breathing helps the body move through that reaction.
As the body adapts, the parasympathetic nervous system takes over. Stress regulation improves and many users feel clearer and calmer after the session.
Hard training creates micro-trauma in muscle fibres and connective tissue, which triggers inflammation and soreness.
Cold slows nerve conduction, which reduces the pain signal, and limits excess inflammation so the muscle can recover with less stiffness.
For morning energy and daily wellness, 2 to 5 minutes at 8 to 15°C is enough. For muscle soreness, 10 to 15 minutes at 11 to 15°C, and after training 11 to 15 minutes at 10 to 15°C.
If you are new to cold water, start with 2 to 3 minutes and extend gradually to 5 minutes as your tolerance grows.
Flowplunge Pro holds 450 litres in a tub 90 cm wide and 74 cm high, and fits users up to 210 cm.
At 15 kg empty it is quick to set up and move, and the insulated lid helps keep the water cold between sessions.
